About Jake
On December 6, 2022 Jake Adam Hescock, a healthy and vibrant 25-year-old, went out for a morning run in Boston, MA. Shortly after, a doorman discovered Jake unconscious and began to administer CPR. Jake had suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
Jake was loved and adored by everyone who crossed his path. He was the epitome of leadership and was always looking to boost and raise up his friends, teammates and family. At 6’7’, Jake’s family and friends describe him as being larger than life, with a heart to match.
He was also a star, Division 1 athlete. Jake started as the tight end for the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights, where he appeared in 49 games before he graduated in 2022.
Ever zealous, Jake showed his zest for life through a myriad of activities and hobbies, including hiking, golfing, fishing and hunting. He was happiest during family quality time with his parents, brother and his dog, Snoop.
His daily mantra was “Win the Day” and his actions showed that he met each moment with that exact drive and determination.
Understanding Jake’s story is critical to understanding the importance of SCA prevention and education. Jake was just weeks away from turning 26. He excelled at sports and priortiized a healthy lifestyle. In December of 2022, he was a recent college graduate just starting the next chapter of his life. Sudden Cardiac Arrest does not discriminate, and it can strike even the most physically fit and vigorous individuals.
Jake was left with a severe brain injury and on December 11, 2022, Jake’s family had to make the painstaking decision to remove him from life support.
The Hescock Family has launched the Win the Day Foundation as a loving tribute to Jake’s never-ending pursuit to help others. The Foundation is committed to driving down the number of athletes struck by SCA through education, CPR training and AED accessibility, and to provide the much-needed support and financial resources to families of athletes who have experienced a major cardiac event.
